ONE Philly Mural – Bernie and Sarah have been putting together design ideas to present. From there, the committee can know what the next steps are.
Poverty Potluck – Nick is working on a dinner and speaking affair. Attendees would bring a dish and have a discussion about poverty and all things related. He would like to get representatives from the Obama and McCain campaign to come out and speak on what each candidate will do concerning poverty. First Friday Outreach – Nick is looking for anyone that would like to come out to First Fridays in Philadelphia and pass out ONE literature and collect signatures. Campus Philly, September 27th – Charla and Bernie have hooked up a ONE/Bread for the World table at the huge Campus Philly event on the Parkway on September 27th. This event has a past attendance of over 15,000 college students! Great exposure for ONE. They are asking if anyone can help out at the ONE/Bread table to contact Charla. The time of the event is 11 – 7, so whatever time you have to give, Charla will appreciate it. We’ll get you a ONE shirt and band to wear. Contact Charla at one.philadelphia@gmail.com.
AIDS Walk 2008 – Philadephia is holding the annual AIDS Walk on October 19, 2008. ONE Philly is looking for volunteers to pass out literature, collect some names and spread the word about ONE. It would be anywhere from 8 am – 5 pm. Contact one.philadelphia@gmail.com if you can help out! We’ll get you a ONE shirt and band to wear.
World AIDS Day 2008 – December 1, 2008 Looking for any volunteers to give out info, collect names and pass out literature. This is a great opportunity to get the message out about global AIDS and urge our fellow Philadelphians to remind their politicians to do all they can for those fighting AIDS. This will be in shifts of morning, afternoon and evening at transportation hubs Gallery East, Suburban Station and 30th Street Station. Contact one.philadelphia@gmail.com if you can help out! Congressman Bob Brady’s office – September 24th, 3pm. – ONE will be joining CARE in meeting with a representative from PA – first district Congressman, Bob Brady. We will meet at the Starbucks at Broad and Jackson in South Philadelphia at 2:30pm, and the meeting with the office is at 3:00pm. If you can make it, please contact Deesha at dyer95@hotmail.com. Let Brady’s office know what matters to his constituents.
Senator Arlen Specter’s office – September 25, 11 am – ONE will be meeting with Senator Specter and letting their office know that fighting global poverty is a priority. If you can make this meeting, please contact ONE Field Organizer, Lauren Conn – lconnone@yahoo.com. The power is in numbers.
Race the White House – ONE VOTE ’08 – The race to the White House for Obama and McCain goes through Pennsylvania, so if you hear of an event surrounding the election going on in our area, let us know! CARE Day of Action – Dinner and a Movie CARE’s National Day of Action
October 17, 2008, 6:45 pm – Join local CARE advocates for a screening of
“A Powerful Noise” – a 90 min. documentary that follows 3 women from Mali, Vietnam and Bosnia. www.apowerfulnoise.org. See how these women are changing the world, and discuss how you can too! Write a letter to the next president stating that ending poverty is a priority. Food from the countries featured will be served. Yum!
